Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat Global Advisors and renowned for his bullish Bitcoin forecasts, has provided insights into why BTC prices haven't surged despite growing institutional interest. Lee highlighted that while US spot Bitcoin ETFs have become one of history's most successful ETF launches with substantial inflows, this demand hasn't translated into expected price appreciation.
The veteran analyst explained that a key factor behind this paradox lies in the ETF purchase mechanism. Rather than representing new capital inflows, Lee noted that significant portions of ETF investments originate from 'in-kind' transfers - where existing BTC holders simply move coins from private wallets to custodial ETF accounts.
"This represents a neutral transfer rather than new demand creation," Lee stated. "Since these transactions don't involve fresh Bitcoin purchases, they don't generate upward price pressure. Bitcoin's valuation ultimately follows basic supply-demand dynamics."
