Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has issued a clarification regarding persistent confusion between the digital asset XRP and company shares. In an official statement published via social media platform X, Garlinghouse stressed these represent fundamentally different assets, with his remarks specifically addressing Ripple equity holdings rather than the cryptocurrency.

The clarification comes amid investor confusion stemming from Linqto's secondary market sales of Ripple shares. Some retail investors mistakenly believed they were acquiring equity directly from Ripple itself. Garlinghouse emphasized that while company shares represent ownership in Ripple, XRP exists as an independent digital asset completely separate from corporate equity.

Regarding Linqto's activities, Garlinghouse made clear that the platform operates independently without any official affiliation with Ripple. Linqto obtained approximately 4.7 million Ripple shares through secondary market transactions with early shareholders, not through direct purchases from the company. While Ripple has verified Linqto's share ownership, Garlinghouse stressed this verification does not constitute endorsement or partnership.

'Ripple has never authorized Linqto to sell our shares nor collaborated with them in any private funding rounds,' the CEO stated. Due to mounting misconceptions about Linqto's offerings being Ripple-sanctioned, the company discontinued secondary share transactions involving Linqto in late 2024 to protect its brand and eliminate investor confusion.

Garlinghouse acknowledged share value appreciation while distancing Ripple from Linqto's operations: 'We have no visibility into how Linqto manages these holdings or addresses investor concerns.' The statement reinforces Ripple's position that XRP exists independently from corporate shares and that verification of ownership does not imply business relationships.
